Five new coaches have arrived since Jose Mourinho's departure, including Guus Hiddink, Antonio Conte, and Maurizio Sari. During their time as managers, none of them have managed to get Chelsea to at least the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Thomas Tuchel is in charge of the English club.Last night, Chelsea defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 at home in the last 16 of the Champions League. With a 3-0 victory in two competitions, the London club reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship for the first time in seven years.
At the Spanish club, Chelsea took the first league 1-0. Tukhel's team was certain of it. Chelsea has never been knocked out of a European competition since winning the first league in a two-league match in their history. Yesterday, the trend persisted. In the attack, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Hakim Zieh have all performed admirably. Chelsea has finally begun to reap the benefits of their heavy investment in assault.
Tuchel has been active in reversing Pasha's gift since Frank Lampard took over as Chelsea's coach. In the 597 minutes of yesterday's match, his defense did not allow the team to score a single goal. In total, the German coach held Chelsea unbeaten in 13 games across all competitions. Never before in Chelsea's history has a coach begun the season with such a perfect record.Tukhel took over as coach from Chelsea just two months later. Tuchel, 47, ended Luis Felipe Scolari's 12-match unbeaten streak for Chelsea and became the first coach to reach the Champions League's last eight since Jose Mourinho in the 2013-14 season.
Atletico has been attacked. Luis Suarez, Marcos Lorento, and Hoao Felix all missed out on the chance. Coach Diego Simeone substituted Korea for Anhel in the 59th minute after picking up Suarez. In extra time, Atletico had a strong chance to win. Chelsea goalkeeper Edward Mendy, however, blocked Joao Felix's attempt.
In the other leg of the last-16 return leg, Bayern Munich defeated Lazio 2-1. In the 33rd minute, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot. Chupo Moting scored the goal for Bayern in the second half.With Parolo's goal in the 82nd minute, the Italian club attempted to reclaim the match. But it was too late by then. Bayern Munich advanced to the quarter-finals after a 6-2 win in two divisions. For the 19th time in the Champions League's history, the German club has advanced to the last eight.
The return leg matches in the Champions League will determine who progresses to the last 16. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Porto, and Real Madrid have all been confirmed for the quarter-finals. The quarter-final draw will take place tomorrow.
